Nomi joshi

This manga that debuted a few months ago is all about the booze. Nomi Joshi / Drinking Girls by Ukatsu debuted in Manga Club last July,  about three friends and their passion for drink.

The manga actually belongs to a genre of manga that focuses on the pleasures of imbibing adult beverages, belonging to the same family of manga as Wakako-zake, Kami no Shizuku and the more famous Bartender.

The three friends, all women aged 29, come from different backgrounds and have their own tastes in tipple. Office lady Michiko Takase prefers beer while the tall, muscular book store worker Misono Miyauchi prefers sake and finally the feminine housewife Yuki Shinonome likes pretty much everything.

The manga more or less follows them as they visit bars, beer gardens and even hot springs as they sample various different drinks and food as they chat about work, family and other topics one would normally indulge in over a frosty pint.

The October issue of Manga Club is currently promoting Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Beer, with a colour illustration of Michiko enjoying said beer. We suppose its an interesting avenue for liquor companies to get traction with the alcohol loving crowd but we think the manga has more substance than just a simple marketing attempt.

At any rate, Nomi Joshi should be a pretty laid back experience, maybe appropriate for when you’re knocking back a pint yourself.
