HTC has recently sent out invitations for its big media event at this year’s Mobile World Congress, Barcelona. The stipulated date is 1 March 2015, with the tagline “HTC: Utopia in Progress – Join us to see what’s next“.
Many are speculating that this is the event where the world will have its first glimpse at HTC’s next flagship model the – HTC One M9 “Hima”. While HTC has not hinted on anything beyond that, the timing and loud tagline of the announcement kind of points towards their next flagship launch.
As previously discussed, the leaked information said that the model will be a 5-inch FHD with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core CPU and 3GB RAM. 20.7MP rear camera and 13MP front camera and it will be powered by Android Lollipop 5.0 straight out of the box. If the leak is true, it will be interesting to note that the company still retains a 1920 x 1080 display in M9 while other competitors in the field are pushing 2K display in their respective flagship models.
There are rumours going around that HTC will also introduce a wearable companion to the new smartphone with partnership from Under Armour. This is consistent with the company’s goal of wanting to be seen as a personal tech brand, not just an exclusive smartphone maker.
Besides that, the company also promised that they will venture into other device categories such as home entertainment systems which they will reveal in the later quarter of the year.
