The Overlord anime is set to come back with a brand new season next year!

The news dropped on the Animate store’s official Twitter account, featuring the cover of the upcoming 12 volume of Kugane Maruyama’s Overlord novel series. However, the wraparound jacket band announced the date which the new anime season drops, January 2018 to be exact. Madhouse will also be back to anime the series, with the previous 13 episode season was debut in July 2015.

As the story goes, it is the year 2138 when virtual reality gaming is booming, but Yggdrasil, a popular online game, is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as “the most powerful wizard.” The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.

The series also received an English dub on Blu-ray and DVD, with two compilation films (Overlord: Fushisha no O and Overlord: Shikkoku no Senshi) being released earlier this year.

It’s surprising that Madhouse is back for another considering that they have a tendency to not do season 2 for animes, especially since they turned down the second season for One Punch-Man.

Either way, we’re expecting it to be good!
