Pacific Rim 2 is still on, according to Guillermo del Toro despite the report from THR.
During an interview with EW, he insists, “We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not gone. We’re still on it.” He even commented that if the movie is delayed, he might slot another one, “If moved further. I may do another movie in the middle.”
And he went on with mischievous humour, “I can tell you this, if I was a billionaire, I would definitely do Hellboy , Pacific Rim 2 , and At the Mountains of Madness. And I would quickly become a millionaire.”
The director repeated his insistence to IGN saying, “It’s not cancelled. I’m gonna do a little movie in between, if [the studio] deem[s] to approve it. But in the meantime we’re turning in a budget and a script in three weeks [on Pacific Rim 2]. So it’s still active. I still have my producer working on the budget and I still have the writer working on the script.”
Guillermo del Toro did not seem to be fazed by the report in THR and he even discussed some ideas about Pacific Rim 3. However the odds of there being a Godzilla crossover is still pretty low.
