Project Morpheus is getting a new name, with Sony christening their virtual reality project as the PlayStation VR.
Atsushi Morita, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia announced it during the Sony press conference in Tokyo not long ago. Meanwhile, PlayStation product business president Masayasu Ito said “The name ‘PlayStation VR’ not only directly expresses an entirely new experience from PlayStation that allows players to feel as if they are physically inside the virtual world of a game, but it also reflects our hopes that we want our users to feel a sense of familiarity as they enjoy this amazing experience.”
He also insists that the hardware will be continuously improved in the coming months and Sony will ensure that the PlayStation VR will have games and titles for it when it is launched.
Sony already listed down a group of games and demos that will be ready for the PlayStation VR during TGS 2015 – Final Fantasy 14 Online, Summer Lesson, Kitchen, Dynasty Warriors 7 VR demo, Rigs, Joysound VR, Aquarion Evol, Summer Lesson and Hatsune Miku VR Tech demo. Sony also said the PlayStation VR will be out in the market by the first half of 2016, which puts it around the same launch time as the 3rd gen Oculus Rift.
