While the character was originally planned to be killed off in Star Wars: The Force Awakens when it was in early development, it looks like the starfighter pilot is getting his own comic series.
Written by Charles Soule and drawn by Phil Noto, the comic will be focusing on the lead up to the opening scene of The Force Awakens; where Poe was seeking out Lor San Tekka on Jakku. The series will also be digging into his status as the top X-wing jockey for General Leia Organa and a new villain that will prove to be Poe’s nemesis.
“Sometimes it can feel like the Star Wars universe is so well trodden and so many stories have already been told,” Soule explains. “But the way the Episode VII galaxy is set up, there are opportunities for new archetypes almost, and the bad guy we’re working with is going to feel fresh and cool.”
Soule and Noto promise to flesh out more of Poe and explore the new (and old) bits of the Star Wars galaxy. Perhaps this means that we might get to see some parts of the extended universe again perhaps?
On top of BB-8 returning as one of the comic’s co stars, there will also be other X-wing pilots getting the comic treatment as well.
The comic is set to come sometime April 2016, and we’ll let you know when we find out more about it.
