Niantic CEO John Hanke has just announced that a version of Pokemon Go is headed to the Apple Watch.
We’re a little surprised that the Apple Watch is even getting a version of Pokemon Go, considering Hanke previously said they weren’t making a version for smartwatches.
Regardless, the popular app will be available on the smartwatch later this year, albeit with some small tweaks. Unlike the smartphone version, the Apple Watch’s Pokemon Go will instead be based on activity goals; which logs your distance and calories burned as you play.
You can also visit PokeStops to collect items, hatch eggs and otherwise allows you to see what Pokemon are appearing nearby without having to look at your smartphone.
All this info will be visible through a simplified user interface, complete with a summary screen that details all the loot you collected on your walk as well as how much you’ve exercised.
They’re also working on a special peripheral called the Pokemon Go Plus, which will essentially allow you to do the same thing.
The Pokemon Go Plus will retail at about USD$34.99 and is set to hit the shelves later this month.
