Oh what a wonderful day, the Pokémon Company has unveiled a brand new Pokémon game, and it lets you catch the pocket monsters in the real world.

“The day has finally come when Pokémon appear in the real world,”Pokémon designer Junichi Masuda said of the ambitious project.

Named Pokémon Go, the game is currently in development by Niantic, a former Google company who were also the guys behind the augmented reality smartphone game Ingress. There has been a handful of world map based Pokémon games in the past, so pairing it up with AR seems like the next logical step.

Both companies are working closely together to make this brand new take on the traditional Pokémon gane which pretty much encourages you to head out of the house to capture you some of the awesome critters. You can also trade captured Pokémon and battle! Basically a dream come true for any Pokémon fan.

There will also be this cool watch peripheral created by Nintendo for a game called Pokémon Go Plus. This gadget will pair up with your phone and allows you to do basic things like throw a Pokéball. On top of that it will have rumble and flash features that react when you encounter Pokémon in the “wild”.

The best part is, this probably isn’t going to be the only game in its series, as the peeps at Nintendo are already thinking of how to connect the game with other main titles in the franchise.

We’re also sure the game will have lots of community events, as Niantic has lots of experience in that department. If the trailer is anything to go by, we can already see a massive Pokémon showdown to defeat the legendary Mewtwo which is probably going to be just one of many similar community events the game would have to offer.

The game is set to alight on iOS and Android in 2016. In the mean time, check out the trailer below and weep happy tears.
