If Namco has Shaheen in Tekken 7 to represent the Middle East, Capcom is following suit with the introduction of Rashid in Street Fighter V.
The designers took a lot of inspiration from the whirling dervishes that are predominant in Muslim nations such as Turkey. The series producer, Yoshinori Ono unveileded the Arab fighter at the Games 15 event at Dubai last week. According to Capcom, the character’s “fighting style takes cues for parkour, and he mixes it up with his unique ability to harness the power of wind.”
His creators also added that Rashid has a thing for gadgets and tech, plus he will be the second Arabic fighter in Capcom’s roster. Pullum Purna is the first Arab fighter who appeared in Street Fighter EX all the way back in 1996.
This inclusion will make Rashid the 11th player revealed in the roster of Street Fighter V so far – now we have Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Cammy, Vega, M.Bison, Birdie, C.Nash, Necalli and R.Mika. The game is due next year on PS4 and PC.
