Razer has just picked up THX, the acquisition of which will not just push Razer ahead in the gaming industry, but will enable THX to further grow as well.

Most of us would be familiar with THX as being one of the more iconic names in cinema, their broad logo usually showing up before the show starts.

Razer won’t be absorbing THX however, as the company will be spun-off as a new startup with their original staff retained. They will still be focusing on best-in-class audio visual certification, optimisation of audio experiences and development of core audio and visual IP.

“Razer has a vision for innovation at every level of entertainment, a vision which THX has championed since its inception more than 30 years ago,” says Razer Co-Founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan. “This acquisition will allow us to reinforce Razer’s leadership in gaming and extend the brand into broader areas of entertainment, while at the same time empowering THX to develop into a global powerhouse, independently.”

THX will also be allowed to seek agreements with other product makers, service providers and financial partners apart from Razer, so it looks like the company would be able to run quite independently from the gaming giant.

We think this also means we’ll be getting a  bunch of THX certified gear from Razer in the future, and we’d love to see how that plays out in terms of gaming audio.
