Some photos from the set of the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist have surfaced, and one of them shows Ryōsuke Yamada clad in Edward Elric garb.
The filming has been going on since early June and will wrap up sometime by mid-August, with the filming currently running in Italy.
The film is being directed by Fumihiko Sori, who wants to create a style that follows the original manga as closely as possible; hence needing a European setting despite the cast being entirely Japanese.
However this doesn’t impact the ethnicities of the characters, as they are aiming to be as faithful to the source material as possible. The film itself, is set to tell the story of Fullmetal Alchemist in one complete film, albeit with Ed aged up from 15 to 20 years old.
Here’s the current roster of characters (not in order):
Ryōsuke Yamada as Edward Elric
Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell
Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang
Fumiyo Kohinata as General Hakuro
Ryuta Sato as Maes Hughes
Misako Renbutsu as Riza Hawkeye
Natsuna as Maria Ross
Natsuki Harada as Gracia Hughes
Yo Oizumi as Shou Tucker
Jun Kunimura as Doctor Marco
Yasuko Matsuyuki as Lust
Kanata Hongou as Envy
Shinji Uchiyama as Gluttony
Kenjiro Ishimaru as Father Cornello
But where’s Alphonse? we’re hoping he won’t end up just being CGI.
The live-action Fullmetal Alchemist film is set to debut in Winter 2017 in Japan.
