The jury is still out on J.J Abram’s work for the upcoming Star Wars movies but it seems one thing might bump up his points with some fans of the series. It seems that the annoying Gungan, Jar Jar Binks and the overtly “cute” (we’re using the word very cautiously here) Ewoks won’t be making any appearances in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
And if you’re wondering who to thank for that, it’s non other than Mr Solo himself, Harrison Ford. During the global press conference for the movie, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, managed to reveal what’s NOT coming out in the movie and the two annoying aliens made the list.
When asked by celebrity moderator Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project) asked what’s not coming out in the movie, Kennedy said “Jar Jar is definitely not in the movie. Ewoks are not in the movie.” And apparently, this was because Harrison Ford insisted on it. And even if the Harrison Ford reference was just a joke, it’s still a happy piece of news for many a fan of the series.
While the Ewoks had have mixed reactions when they first came out in Return of the Jedi, the absence of the irritating Gungan on the other hand, will be a big relief for many. In a movie poll done in 2006 for the most annoying movie character, Jar Jar Binks came out tops. We’re pretty sure nothing much has changed since then either.
