Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future, a sci-fi series which ran in the 1980s is getting a reboot, called Phoenix Rising.

The series was set in the year 2147 and took place after the Metal Wars (which was a World War type event between humans and machines). The series even had a tie-in toy line back in the day.

Gary Goddard, co-creator of the original series, is rebooting the franchise to a new series called Phoenix Rising; and has released a teaser trailer and synopsis to boot.

Phoenix Rising is being produced by Planet X Production, with the pilot episode being written by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, who also worked on Star Trek: Enterprise.

And here’s the synopsis:

Phoenix Rising picks up 15 years after humanity has lost a devastating war against an artificial intelligence called Overmind. Jonathan Power, the son of the man who caused that war, learns the truth about his father and discovers a new type of battle armor that will enable a small, mismatched team of soldiers and civilians to fight the Bionic armies of the New Order. Dunigan will return in a new role.

If anything it looks like they took pains to recreate the 80-ies special effects so hopefully the reboot comes out decent at the very least.
