It’s great to see government bodies taking an interest in Malaysia’s E-sports scene and in the case of the Selangor state government, they’ve done it for four continuous years. With the official announcement of the Selangor Cyber Games 2017 (SCG17), they’ve shown that they’re continuing their support for the nascent scene in Malaysia. This year is especially even more so as the focus this time will be on Malaysian gamers.
The Selangor Cyber Games 2017 will be held at Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya from August 12 to 13 with four games open for competition; League of Legends (LoL), DOTA2, FIFA Online 3 and Tekken 7. With a total prize pool of RM180,000, this is one e-sports event you wouldn’t want to miss.
The event is organised by Garena, Mineski Events Team, and Big Machinez and are being supported by DiGi, Lenovo, Logitech, and Time. This year’s main game of focus will be LoL with a bulk of the prize money (RM80,000) being allocated as the prize pool for the MOBA’s tourney. This is on top of getting a spot in upcoming Garena Premier League Summer 2017 regional event in Thailand.
That’s not all, while the winners for the SCG17 will get their hands on the part of the RM80,000 prize pool, as the tourney is part of the LoL Legends circuit as well, some of the participants in the playoffs will also be getting some prize money, which is around RM20,000 plus.
Of course, there is more to SCG17 than just LoL. The other games are also getting a pretty substantial prize pool with the second highest amount, RM50,000, going to the DOTA 2 tournament, RM30,000 going to the FIFA Online 3 tournament and RM20,000 to the Tekken 7 tournament.
With that substantial amount of prize money up for grabs, you might want to make your way to SCG17 even more so since there are no pre-qualifying events. This means anyone can take part and if you’re good enough in either of the featured games, you’ll have a good chance of taking home part of the prize pool.
So just head over to the SCG17 site here if you want to sign up for any of the competitions that are going to be held.
