First, Konami confirmed that Silent Hills is definitely silent. Not only that, they delisted themselves from NYSE too. They stating the voluntary delisting is “cost saving measure” but their stocks are still tradeable at London and Tokyo. Usually this means the company is not confident of making the minimum US$5 million per year to stay listed on the NYSE.

Now, few opportunistic people are auctioning the PS4 consoles installed with the yanked off P.T. of the cancelled project on eBay at obscene prices like US$1530 (RM5400 plus). Few days ago, Konami removed the much praised P.T. that got many Silent Hill fans excited since last year. The silver lining in the cloud is the Japanese game company still intends to continue the franchise in future.
There are many telltale signs that something is not going right between the company’s star Hideo Kojima and Konami, perhaps this is the biggest casualty of the speculated tension between two. Konami never bothered to furnish any reasoning or explanation as to why they canned this project. The official statement goes like this: “Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic Silent Hills project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued,”
Kojima himself is committed to wrap up Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain which is coming out in September this year. However, he did not make any statements regarding the abrupt cancellation of Silent Hills.
One will suspect that lots of popcorn worthy drama after the release of Metal Gear Solid.
