Having put their Hi-Res audio tech is many a device, Sony has taken the next step to letting you have great music anywhere you go; by putting it in your car.
These three bits of audio gear were initially introduced at IFA 2015, and are none other than the RSX-G59 head unit, XM-GS4 High-Resolution Audio Amplifier and the XS-GS1 Hi-Res Audio Super Tweeters. When used together, all three work in concert to give you a real sweet audio experience to go along with your smooth ride.
As with all of Sony’s Hi-Res products, they’ve put in a lot of work in minimising noise and vibration to create the best sound reproduction possible; and the kit will even upscale your regular music to Hi-Res.
Sony’s RSX-GS9 is one of the world’s first audio media receiver to sport native DSD playback and is capable of handling all audio formats. When you play compressed files, DSEE HX will upscale them to near Hi-Res Audio quality so they would get a boost to the best levels possible. To do this, they’ve incorporated the ES9018S 32-bit audio D/A converter from ESS, the best in the world. Files will be translated to analog in dynamic ranges of up to 135dB and -120dB of THD+N (total harmonic distortion and noise) so it feels like you’re in your own personal concert hall. The unit also features two USB two A slots and a USB micro-B port, so you can play from any media source that supports these connections.
To top it off, the unit has a machined 14mm aluminium finish, OLED display and backlit keys.
The XM-GS4 4-channel amp is a key part of the system as well; with a wide frequency response from 10Hz all the way up to 100KHz for powerful tones with 700W of audio power. It isn’t pure raw power either; it has built in limiters to ensure that it still delivers with precision.
Last but not least is the XS-GS1 Super Tweeter; which is a 25mm soft dome super tweeter that takes care of all the high-frequency sounds. Able to cope with up to frequencies reaching 50kHz; it maximises transmission through the car while keeping your music crispy. The XS-GS1 can also be installed facing the windshield; to aid in sound dispersion.
Unfortunately the pricing and release date for these products is yet to be released but it shouldn’t be too far off.
