The Japanese giant, Sony, is looking to hire new game programmers but for what? Many fans are speculating that the company could be starting to assemble a team to create the PlayStation 5.
The current flagship gaming console, the PlayStation 4 is faring pretty good in Japan, North America and Europe despite stiff competition from Microsoft’s Xbox One. The machine was released in November 2013 and had about 22.4 million units shipped around the world compared to Xbox One’s 10 million figure according to the latest statistics. However, when the American company dropped the price of the Xbox One, it got a massive surge of popularity that might prompted Sony to begin development of their next console.
The rumours began with this innocent looking job ad by Sony:
“We have an exciting opportunity at Sony Computer Entertainment of America (PlayStation). We seek a senior game programmer to assist us in developing a game used for R&D purposes related to our next generation gaming system. For someone passionate about gaming this is a very rare opportunity. After reviewing the below job profile, if this is you, please apply!”
The word “next generation” is pretty tantalizing.
So, is it really a PlayStation 5 as many people hoping for or a continuation of Project MORPHEUS development or something else that we never heard of?
