Its confirmed! Star Blazers / Space Battleship Yamato 2202 anime has just been confirmed, and their official website is up! More details inside.
The anime will be titled as Uchū Senkan Yamato 2202: Ai no Senshi-tachi (Space Battleship Yamato2202: Warriors of Love or Star Blazers 2202: Warriors of Love)
Yamato 2202 will be directed by Nuboyoshi Habara (Fafner, Star Blazers 2199) with Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC, Harlock: Space Pirate) is handling the scripts. The late Yoshinobu Nishizaki is credited with the original work while his son Shoji Nishizaki (Star Blazers 2199, Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection) is executive producer.
Details for the series are currently pretty scant, but they did release this seriously cool image by illustrator Makoto Kobayashi:
The original Space Battheship Yamato series (as adapted for the US as Star Blazers) was rebooted as Space Battleship Yamato 2199, as a series of seven movies showin in Japan from 2012 to 2013.
No word if this new series will be tied in to the previous series/movies but they’ll be releasing more info in due time!
