You heard it right, Square Enix has announced a brand new smartphone game called Pop-up Story: Mahō no Moto to Seiju no Gakuen (Pop-up Story: The Origin of Magic and the Academy of the Sacred Tree) which is set to launch within the next couple of days.
Having launched the official website on Sunday, they’ve revealed the new game will be an “adventurer raising” sim of some sort which will be available on iOS and Android.
The site should be showing off a promotional video for the game soon.
They’ve also revealed that the game will have a huge array of characters, and 50 voice actors to go with it. You can check it out in the image below:
For those who can’t read Japanese, the list includes Yuka Iguchi, Ai Kayano, Aya Suzaki,Natsuki Hanae, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Shizuka Itou, Rie Kugimiya, Minami Takahashi, Saori Hayami, Kaori Mizuhashi, Ryota Ohsaka, Saori Goto, Masumi Tazawa, Yōko Hikasa, Inori Minase,Nobuhiko Okamoto, Chiwa Saito, Atsumi Tanezaki, Ayumi Fujimura, Haruka Yamazaki, Yui Ogura,Momoko Saito, Minori Chihara, Yoshimasa Hosoya, Tsubasa Yonaga, Hisako Kanemoto, Rina Satou,Manami Numakura, Tomoaki Maeno, and Madoka Yonezawa.
That’s insane.
Aside from that, the Pop-up Story also seems to include traditional RPG elements like 3D battles with classic monsters and what currently appears to be a turn based battle system. It also looks like you will be able to raise your adventurers to have different classes too, if the image from the site is any indication.
The game seems to have a 27 October release date so we’ll probably be testing it out once it goes live. Hopefully it will also be available in English come launch but we’re not betting on it just yet.
