Macross Delta’s newest idol singer/voice actress is none other than the newcomer Minori Suzuki from Aichi Prefecture and she will be playing the role of Freyja Wion. The five lead female characters will perform theme songs for the series in a unit called Walkure (Valkyrie in English).
Freyja Wion, an aspiring idol who is full of spirit and smiles is one of the five girls pilot group form the “Tactical Sound Unit” Walkure, the first major songstress group in the Macross anime franchise. The Walkure squadron/group fighting the Var Syndrome that is consuming the galaxy while there is the mysterious Aerial Knights Valkyrie fighter squadron of the Kingdom of Wind hovering around. So basically a female idol group flying around in transformable fighter fighting aliens and bunch of pretty boys in their Valkyries tagging along too?
The series will be set eight years after the events depicted in Macross Frontier. The first preview of the episode will be aired on 31st December 2015 in Japan.
Kawamori confirmed that the VF-31 is an update of the YF-30 Chronos from the Macross 30 game. The fighter has built-in gun ports in its arms. Whereas for the Sv-262, Kawamori noted that this is the first delta wing design variant Valkyrie in Macross universe, followed by Tenjin’s observation that the cockpit is not transparent. The Sv-262 is obviously paid homage to the old Swedish Cold War era fighter, the Saab 35 Draken. Whereas the numerical designation bears striking resemblance to old Nazi Germany’s World War II jet fighter plane, the Me-262.
The original creator and chief director will be Shoji Kawamori (Studio Nue) whereas director is Kenji Yasuda (Arata Kangatari). Script and composition is by Chisato Mita (Capcom E.X. Troopers) while character designers are Majiro (Barakamon) and Yuu Shindou (Persona 4 The Golden Animation).Hidetaka Tenjin (Macross Frontier, Hellsing Ultimate) is credited as “Macross visual artist”. Music scoring will be done by flying DOG and studio Satelight (Bodacious Space Pirates, Macross Frontier) will be the production house.
