The 1997 sci-fi action film Starship Troopers is getting rebooted by Columbia Pictures and they’re hoping to mold it into a multi-movie franchise.

Details are little scant on the project at the moment, but they’ve got Mark Swift and Damian Shannon on board to write the script. They’re the same writing team behind Dwayne Johnson’s Baywatch movie that’s currently in the works. Fast and Furious producer Neal H. Moritz will be on board to develop the project.

But they are planning on making the new movie a re-imagining of the source material as written by Robert A.Heinlein; a story of a soldier named Johnny Rico as he moves through the ranks as humanity fights against a race of giant alien bugs. Maybe it will be closer to the original source material? we don’t know yet, but hopefully it would be more than just giant CG bugs and carnage.
