After so much image teasing and rumours, plus a major online leak, we finally have it here – the HD trailer of Suicide Squad that debuted at SDCC 2015. Despite their pleas to the fans not to record the exclusive trailer during the panel session, someone did and the world has its first potato quality video of the trailer minutes after it is shown. Making a U-turn on their policy, Warner Bros decided to let out the HD version out earlier than expected.
The official statement by Sue Kroll, President Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution:
“Warner Bros. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the Suicide Squad footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday. We have been unable to achieve that goal. Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation.”
David Ayer couldn’t contain his disappointment with this tweet:
Shame our sneak peek Hall H footage was leaked. #notcool
it's unfair to the fans who waited in line. And not how I intended folks to see it.— David Ayer (@DavidAyerMovies) July 13, 2015
First, The Bee Gees music “I Started A Joke” started in a haunting manner.
Viewers will be struck by the heavy focus on Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Deadshot (Will Smith) in the three minute trailer with snippets of Ben Affleck’s Batman in action and a mention of Superman in the passing. We also go to see the mysterious Katana (Karen Fukuhara) plunging her supposedly soul absorbing sword into herself, living up to the name Suicide Squad. Not only that, a quick shot of Enchantress (Clara Delevingne) emerging from water looking confused, hinting that we might got to see her origin story in this movie. El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) is literally playing with fire, hinting a supernatural aspect in the movie.
Then the money shot is the appearance of Jared Leto’s The Joker who wants to hurt people really bad.
