If you’ve been following the news for the upcoming Power Rangers reboot (or are a long time fan), the new synopsis might seem a bit familiar to you.

For those acquainted with the original Power Rangers series, you’ll find that the movie takes place in the same setting with the same classic characters and a pretty similar plot. That and the movie is going to be called Saban’s Power Rangers. Talk about branding.

Here’s the new synopsis:

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

Sounds pretty basic, and the movie will be heading back to Angel Grove. Not entirely sure what they mean by “real-life issues” just yet but we hope there would be copious appearances by their Zords.

So far, the announced cast includes RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger and Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger.

Elizabeth Banks has been cast as classic villain Rita Repulsa (does anyone know if Zordon has been cast yet?)

The film will be directed by Dean Israelite with writers for the movie including Max Landis and John Gatins alongside Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller.

Saban’s Power Rangers hits theatres 24 March 2017.
