The alien “Invasion” update for Team Fortress 2 is finally here, after being in the works for more than a year. This update not only features material made by Valve but also community contributions to the game.
There are a total of four community made maps, 2Fort Invasion, Probed, Byre and Watergate with some new high tech weapon skins like the Batsaber and the Shooting Star. There’s also an Invasion mission campaign and space themed hats (come on, it isn’t Team Fortress 2 without hats!) and Space Cases crates with new item skins which you need to purchase keys to unlock.
Not forgetting the easter eggs, the update is chock full of fun secrets, like the whale bone charms and mask similar to the one Corvo wears in Dishonored, which the Watergate level is inspired by. There are also a bunch of hidden gags about how long the update took to come out, but we’ll let you find those yourself.

While this is a great community update, Valve is still hard at work at some big new features for the game like competitive matchmaking to the point they’ve cancelled their yearly Halloween event. But this does make a fine substitute.
