You know DOTA 2 has hit the mainstream hard when a major sports channel like ESPN has decided to take notice.
Then again, when you have a prize pool money amounting to US$10 million and an audience that has grown by 508% since 2012, it’s really hard not to take notice. Ok so we’ll skip the jokes about how much sitting in front of a PC and clicking away CAN be considered an actual sport but seriously, ESPN! Goes to show how far pro-gaming has gone.
The tournament will be broadcasted live on ESPN this weekend and prior to the finals on Sunday, there’ll also be a preview show with expert analysis as well as an interview with Valve’s Gabe Newel. Wow the International is getting the full ESPN treatment. Good job guys! Its great to see that DOTA 2 getting some more than cursory love from THE sports channel and hopefully it’s not going to be only DOTA 2 getting all the love. We’re pretty sure the LoL and Starcraft guys would like some mainstream sports channel love too.
