It’s finally here. What is potentially the final release trailer for one of the most anticipated films of the year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has finally debuted.

The trailer made its debut during halftime on ESPN’s Monday Night Football and according to Disney, marks the start of ticket sales for the first showing of the movie in the US.

The new Star Wars: The Force Awakes trailer itself is an awesome watch. There’s enough big moments in there to keep you excited and with a few hints here and there, keeping you wanting more.

Of course, the new characters from the film take centre stage. There’s plenty of Rey and Finn in there and we finally get to hear the movie’s antagonist, Kylo Ren, speak. Luke Skywalker only makes a very brief appearance, and we don’t even get to see his face but our ever lovable space rogue, Han Solo, and his sidekick Chewie does make a number of appearances.

The trailer itself still doesn’t let out what’s the overall plot of the movie, though we do get some little hints here and there about a few things. One of them is what happened to the Jedi after The Return of the Jedi.  You’d have assumed that after the Rebels won against the Empire, Luke would have rebuilt the Jedi Order. That was at least what the now defunct extended universe had gone with.

Instead, it seems the Jedi and maybe even Luke himself had disappeared, becoming legends. This is hinted through a couple of dialogues by Rey änd Han Solo. Like “There were stories about what happened,” and Solo saying “It’s true, the Dark Side, the Jedi, they’re real.”

Whatever happened to Luke and rebuilding the Jedi? I guess we won’t know until the movie comes out and it can’t come sooner enough.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will open in Malaysian theatres on 17 December 2015.
