Despite dismal box office returns, the Expendables series of movies seems to still be chugging along, with the next installment set to release in 2017.
The brainchild of Sylvester Stallone, he’s made it known that the next action hero flick under his umbrella is coming in 2017 whether we’re ready or not. We’ve watched some of the movies ourselves (mainly number two because, Chuck Norris) and they’re not wholly terrible, with plenty of action and gore.
It is nice to see some of the biggest names in action come together to beat the crap out of each other (with a few gags as well), but that’s a wholly different thing depending on your personal taste.
There’s also been rumours that the next film will feature Pierce Brosnan of Bond fame as well as Jackie Chan. If you’re not sure what the series is about, this trailer for the third movie will clue you in.
Stallone states that the movie is going back to its original R rating, after deciding that the dumbing down of the violence for the sake of a PG-13 rating in the previous one was half the cause of the film’s failure. The movie apparently has been partially funded as of the moment.
Stallone also dropped a bit of a tease for the movie’s plot:
“I have actually entertained the idea of putting the group into such an unnatural environment that it, in an of itself, creates extra suspense and tension: the ‘fish out of water’ scenario. That environment might not be time travel, but nearly just as jarring.”
We’re not entirely sure what he’s implying, but it almost sounds like they’re chucking the team into an alien landscape.
