Frank Castle has had a turbulent history when it comes to movie adaptations. On the small screen, though, that all changed as his appearance in Season two of Daredevil was one that rocked the series and gave it a lot more grit.
So much so that many have clamoured that The Punisher ought to get his very own series from Netflix. Well, it looks like it’s coming true as streaming service has officially given The Punisher a green light.
The Punisher series will be the sixth Marvel series under Netflix and Jon Bernthal, who played the brutal vigilante in the Daredevil season two, will reprise his role. It’s great news for fans especially since Bernthal’s performance as Frank Castle in the series received significant praise from viewers and critics alike.

There’re not many details on the series yet but what we do know is that writer and producer Steven Lightfoot will be the showrunner for the series and it will be set, like Daredevil, in Hell’s Kitchen.
With the addition of The Punisher into Netflix’s stable of Marvel series, comic fans will be in a tizzy. Daredevil and Jessica Jones have already received numerous praises (and in Jessica Jones case, a Peabody award) and we’re expecting even more from the upcoming Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders series. By adding in the gritty The Punisher into the line-up, we can be assured that Netflix is going to be the home the more raw and darker side of the Marvel universe.
As we said before, not much details on the series have yet to be released but you can expect Frank Castle to bring his style of justice to Netflix sometime next year. Till then, enjoy this small teaser of The Punisher.
