PS4

Remember some time ago we mentioned that Sony was prepping an updated PS4? now it has a name.

As reported by Giant Bomb, Sony not only is upgrading their PlayStation 4 platform in preparation for 4K video content, but is also beefing it up for PlayStation VR as well.

Codenamed “NEO” (in an allude to the PSVR’s codename, Project Morpheus) the new PS4 will have hardware capable of 2.25 better graphics than the current model, on top of a 500 MHz increase to system CPU clock speed. It will also be getting a beefier 42 GB/s increase in memory bandwidth as well.

Devs have apparently also been informed that they now need to ship titles (starting this October) with a “base mode” compatible with the existing PS4 platform and a “NEO mode” which will work with the new hardware. Those who own the current PS4, don’t fret, because both console platforms will remain cross-compatible so you won’t be forced to upgrade.

Not sure when the upgraded PS4 will be released but its already pointing towards much sweeter graphics and gameplay. And probably would be more expensive.
