If this year hasn’t already booked all the seats on the nostalgia train, we hope they’ve got some space in the caboose as its just been reported that there will be a live-action Micronauts film.

The film, which is being published by Paramount and Bad Robot, also just signed on scriptwriter Tom Wheeler (co-writer for Puss in Boots) to draft the film.

It seems that the movie has been in the works for quite awhile too, as producer J.J Abrams (Star Trek reboot, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) was apparently in talks with Hasbro about a film based on the toy line, since the company bought over the rights from Takara.

For those too young to remember, Micronauts (called Microman in Japan) was a toy line that existed between 1976 to 1980 in a similar vein to Transformers, but was known for having high levels of articulation for toys of the time. Here’s a super old catalog cover of the toys to get some idea of what they looked like:

Hasbro is also working with IDW to publish a new set of comics for Micronauts in what we think is a move to reinvigorate the franchise as a whole.

We don’t have much details beyond this, but do you think they could make it work? let us know in the comments.
