Hai to Gensou no Grimgal
Based on a light novel by Ao Jyumonji, with a manga adaptation by Mutsumi Okuhashi in April this year, Hai to Gensou no Grimgal (Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash or 灰と幻想のグリムガル) tells the story of a group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to a fantasy-like video game world.
In this world, in order to survive the harsh but amazingly designed environment, the characters have to rely on their own wits and strength. Unlike role-playing games where characters have powers, here, the main protagonists possess no magical abilities whatsoever.
With the design of the anime reminiscing Studio Ghibli’s style, the series directed by Ryosuke Nakamura who also directed Moryo no Hako, Nerawareta Gakuen, and Aiura, is being produced by A-1 Pictures.
