Top Gun 2 is in active development and some of its original cast are coming back to reprise their former roles!
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently revealed that he was in talks with Tom Cruise about the movie, and Val Kilmer will be back to reprise his role to boot! This is great news since the Top Gun sequel was in development for years.
The story apparently will be involving a modern version of aerial warfare involving drones and remote pilots, being set a good 30 years after the events of the original Top Gun. They haven’t gotten a director on board for the project yet, but the script will be handled by Justin Marks.

“Justin Marks is writing the screenplay right now. He has a phenomenal take to really update that world for what fighter pilots in the navy have turned into today. There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie and there is no Top Gun without Maverick. It is going to be Maverick playing Maverick. I don’t think it is what people are going to expect, and we are very, very hopeful that we get to make the movie very soon. But like all things, it all comes down to the script, and Justin is writing as we speak.”
Besides this, there isn’t much other information yet, but we think that a modern rendition of Top Gun would be awesome.
