It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No it’s Supergirl!
That’s right, the Man of Steel’s cousin has her own television series and the new six minute long trailer is now out.
With Arrow and The Flash’s Greg Berlanti executive producing the show, we’re expecting quite a bit from it. The trailer shows that the Supergirl is not going to be like most of the current superhero based TV shows we’re seeing so far.
Forget the gritty, dark undertones that most superhero shows are currently going for (granted The Flash isn’t as “dark”). What we have in Supergirl instead looks like The Devil Wears Prada with some superhero elements thrown in (yes and we realise it has a striking resemblance to that Black Widow SNL sketch). Not that we think that’s a bad thing.
With Arrow, The Flash, Daredevil and most of the other superhero based TV series attuned more to a male demographic, maybe a superhero series that’s more appealing to a female demographic is just what we all need. Of course depending who you talk to, some will think it’s a big mistake to take this route but we remember similar noises being made years ago when Smallville first came out. Only time will tell though and hopefully we’ll get to see more than one season of Supergirl on air.
So what do you think? Does CBS’ take on Supergirl have what it takes to be a success?

From the looks of the trailer, it talks a great deal of her identity conundrum – she feels trapped in a normal life when she have the special gift. Definitely feels more cheerful than Arrow, the actress tries to convey the very nervousness of being Kara on accepting her gifts. Also, she is surrounded by many handsome guys which maybe lend to some romantic possibilities. The former star of Ally McBeal, Calista Flockhart is trying so hard not to be Ally McBeal too.
Coming in this October, let’s see if the show delivers.
