The next Assassin’s Creed has finally been announced and has been confirmed to be named Syndicate and wil be indeed taking place in Victorian London in 1868 and will star the brother sister duo of Jacob and Evie Fyre.

The duo run their own criminal gang and are intent to take back London the only way they know how. Assassin style. While only pre-alpha gameplay footage is available at the moment, on top of the debut trailer and a preview of Jacob’s weapons, the game is already looking very good despite still being slightly rough around the edges.

So far it has been confirmed that you actually do get to play as female assassin but there will be a healthy scattering of female foes from bosses to basic grunts. Sadly there will be no multiplayer but the game does support a kind of mob recruitment mechanic that lets you get into big street brawls with allies very similar to that from previous games in the series.

There will also be the chance to hijack, ride and fight on the tops of carriages as well as emphasis on the use of the Grappling Hook to get around. Ubisoft also says that the stealth system has been given a good tweaking and though we don’t know how they have changed things they say you’ll be spending more time crawling, crouching and manipulating the environment than trying to disappear into a crowd. The game is also bringing back distractions with the whistle, which was not present in Assassin’s Creed: Unity.

Of course, there will be historical figures hidden in the woodwork as is the tradition of Assassin’s Creed and Ubisoft has so far confirmed that Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens will be making an appearance in Syndicate.

Syndicate will also be getting a day-night cycle, which was absent from Unity and is hinted to be following in the footsteps of the same game in terms of story, with more to be revealed come summer.

We also get a little taste of how Jacob will handle combat.

The game will have an October 23rd release for the PS4 and Xbox One while the PC release will be happening later in the Fall with no confirmed release date.

Now isn’t it a bloody marvelous time to be alive?
