The video game giant, Ubisoft is set to open an indoor theme park in Kuala Lumpur in 2020.
Famous for game franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Just Dance – the company is partnering with R. Segari Group (RSG) Sdn Bhd for this project. RSG has previously co-developed the Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) in Perak. This particular project supposed to incorporate attractions based on DreamWorks franchises, The Smurfs and other well known animated projects.
According to Ramelle Ramli, chairman of RSG, “Ubisoft will be our anchor tenant, but we have other non-game brands,”. He declined to comment further on which would be the “other non-game brands” though. While on the other side, the senior VP of Ubisoft Motion Pictures Jean de Rivières said “But the spirit is to have a blank page, so we can choose the best titles for this next generation park” he continues. “We’re going to try to have a story that starts at the beginning of the visit, continues throughout the visit and hopefully extends beyond the visit as well. It’s not about the technology. It’s about the technology serving the story.”
He also adds that some of the biggest franchises of Ubisoft such as Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry would “likely” be included. However, according to him, the list is yet to be finalized and the discussions have been ongoing for eight months now. This is not the first time Ubisoft is set on something like this as they have also worked with France’s Futuroscope in 2014 to create a 3D dark ride based on Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time game. This particular ride is ranked in the top ten attractions in the world for 2014 and is encouraging Ubisoft to explore the theme park business further.
The construction of the park is expected to begin around 2017 and completed in 2020 according to Ramelle Ramli. He said that this would give the country one of the biggest clusters of theme parks outside USA or Europe. According to Variety, the park’s size is estimated to be around 10,000 square-meters.
So are you looking forward to it?
