HTC recently announced that their virtual reality headset, the HTC Vive will become commercially available April next year.
Originally the Vive was slated to begin sale around this time but now the release has been delayed for unspecified reasons. Valve already began sending out Vive dev kits in June and are planning on making an additional 7,000 units available to devs by next year.
The brand will also be releasing the second generation of dev kits for the HTC Vive at CES 2016 as well as making appearances at The Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, GDC and MWC.
The April release date puts it around the same time as Sony’s Playstation VR and the 3rd gen Oculus Rift. Both headsets are slated to be released in the first half of the year. They haven’t announced a potential pricepoint yet but we think its likely to be around the $299-399 price point.
