Beginning 1 January 2015, Japanese eyewear company Vision Megane, will begin to market a very unique spectacle frame dubbed the Super Taflex. What is unique about it is extremely resistant to bending and stretching thanks to a tech called memory metal which basically translates into an ability to heal itself from dents and scratches within ten seconds. Yes, ten seconds.
The self healing capability came from the frame’s “cross guard coating,” which, according to the company’s diagram describes it as a springy chain link fence that pops back to shape after objects hurled against it. The company claims with this concept, the frame will be durable against normal day-to-day wear and tear.
Despite the most critical part of a pair of glasses being the lens itself, users will find this technology to be very useful. The frame’s material is made of something called Ultern which is used in manufacturing spacecraft parts due to its superb resilience against everything while retaining the lightweight aspect.
The Super Taflex will be available in four styles with a price tag of US$190 (RM662). No announcement if the product will be exported out of Japan or not. To see what other models offered by the company, check out their official site.
