Dr. Who is back for Season 9 with Peter Capaldi as the latest Time Lord. At SDCC 2015, we got to see the new trailer featuring adventures of him, Missy and Clara facing turns and twists in the ever expanding time continuum.
Premiering with a two-part installment, “The Magician’s Apprentice” and “The Witch’s Familiar”, Season 9 of Dr. Who will feature talents like Maisie Williams, Rufas Hound, Tom Stourton, Ariyon Bakare, Simon Lipkin, Ian Conningham, Murray McArthur, Barnaby Kay, John Voce, Struan Rodger, Jemma Redgrave, Kelly Hunter, Clare Higgins, Jaye Griffiths, Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, Jami Reid-Quarrell, Aaron Neil, India Ria Amarteifio, Joey Price, Dasharn Anderson, Harki Bhambra, Demi Papaminas, and a returning Michelle Gomez as the villian Missy. Steven Moffat still reigning as lead writer and showrunner of the series.
Capaldi summarizes the Season 9 as:
“[The Doctor and Clara have] suddenly realised that they are the most fortunate people in all of time and space and are hell-bent on adventure. (The Doctor) is in pursuit of joy and grabbing every thrill that he can along the way. But I sense him running from something, that even he does not yet understand…”
Chiming in support, actress Jenna Coleman who plays as Clara said, “found their groove and they’re eating up time and space with reckless abandon.” She continues, “There’s been kind of a freedom to us both. It’s our glory years and it’s really adrenaline fueled and it’s about pushing the adventure right up until the end. And obviously with that comes great danger. But it’s just been very fun. I think Clara has changed some and wants to feel alive now and eat up time with her best friend in the TARDIS.”
One point of interest is the debut of Maisie Williams (Arya Stark in Game of Thrones) in unspecified role. In the trailer she greets Dr. Who as “Old Man”. So who is she? Long lost daughter of the Dr. Who? River Song? Capaldi teases that Williams character “shifts in cosmic way”.
Dr.Who Season 9 will premier worldwide on 19 September 2015.
