Lately Disney Animation Studios has been on a winning streak — first with Wreck-It-Ralph, Frozen and now Big Hero 6. Not ones to rest on their laurels, the studio is already hard at work at its next epic titles. Here’s some ideas on what’s coming in 2016, folks.
Zootopia and Moana are the two projects Disney is working on. The official synopsis of Zootopia is about “In the animal city of Zootopia, a fast-talking fox who’s trying to make it big goes on the run when he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Zootopia’s top cop, a self-righteous rabbit, is hot on his tail, but when both become targets of a conspiracy, they’re forced to team up and discover even natural enemies can become best friends.” whereas Moana is about “In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.”
The team behind Moana sees the return of Mermaids and Alladin staff like Ron Clements and John Musker.
Zootopia will be helmed by the director of Tangled, Byron Howard.
Rumours are spinning around on that Moana will be done in the animation style of Paperman but nothing confirms this one yet.
Zootopia will be shown at cinemas on 4 March 2016 and Moana will be cruising in on 23 November 2016.
