Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches/山田くんと7人の魔女 or Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo is a popular school comedy that is still running in Weekly Shonen Magazine by Kodansha. In 2013, the manga series was adapted into live action TV drama (eight episodes) and it drove the sales of the manga up to the roof – 2.5 million copies printed to be exact. The series is penned by Miki Yoshikawa and was started in 2011 as a prototype one shot manga to gauge reader’s interest. It became a regular fixture in the Weekly Shonen Magaine and so far 15 tankubon volumes are out in the market.
Now the anime TV series got announced, which is no surprise considering the popularity of the manga and how well received the one shot OAD anime was when it was released back in 2014.
Director will be Seiki Takuno (Love Live!, Buddy Complex ) who worked on the previous one shot. Writer and series composition willl be Michiko Yokote (Air Master, Princess Tutu), character designer is Eriko Iida, music scoring is by Masaru Yokoyama (Freezing, Acchi Kochi) with studio LIDEN Films (Arslan Senki) behind the production.Casting are Eri Kitamura (Angel Beats!, Bakemonogatari), Saori Hayami (Ano Hana, Air Gear), Ryota Osaka (Log Horizon, Assassination Classroom) and Daisuke Ono (Suzumiya Haruhi, Terra Formars) . Basically the same crew from the one-shot OAD effort in nutshell.
The synopsis of the story : “Ryū Yamada is known as a delinquent in his high school; he has been bored of classes after one year of attending school. One day, he accidentally falls from a flight of stairs onto Urara Shiraishi, the ace student of the school. Yamada wakes up to find that he has swapped bodies with her. The two try to reverse the change and discover that kissing triggers the body swap. On the suggestion of student council vice-president Toranosuke Miyamura, they revive the Supernatural Studies Club. The supernatural phenomenon-obsessed Miyabi Itō soon joins the club. The club encounters other “witches” with different powers that are activated with a kiss.”
The broadcast will begin on TV in early April and a one day cinema special is scheduled for advanced screening of episode 1 on 14 March. From the looks of it, the series is a lighthearted romance comedy set in school with a harem of cute girls surrounding one delinquent boy which is a typical summer anime offering.
