Yet another China smartphone maker is making a debut in Malaysia. In a couple of days (23 July, to be exact), Zopo Mobile Malaysia is expected to introduce its selected portfolio of products – ZP1000, ZP780 and ZP700; and the flagship ZP998.
The coming of Zopo is what we consider the third wave of Chinese brands flooding the market in recent years, which include the likes of Xiaomi and Vivo. Giants Huawei, ZTE and Alcatel One Touch have of course made their mark, especially in the mid-range devices category.
The two-year old upstart hails from Shenzhen, a consumer electronics hub in China. Little is known about the brand in Malaysia although several of its products namely the ZP1000, ZP998 and ZP780 are available in the grey market, at extortionate prices of course! An online store is retailing the ZP998 at over RM2,200. Madness.
The flagship packs some impressive specs including the popular MediaTek MTK6592 true-octa core processor running at 1.7GHz, a generous 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 14MP autofocus rear camera and 5MP front shooter, dual-SIM and a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display protected by Gorilla Glass 2. It runs Android 4.2.
Stay tuned for updates at the official media launch come Wednesday.
