Kadokawa recently announced that they’ve green-lit a movie titled Sadako vs. Kayako, and will bring together two of the most iconic horror film characters from the Ring and the Ju-on franchise.
The film originally came about when the website for Ju-on: The Final ran an April Fools joke promoting a Sadako vs. Kayako crossover film. We guess they decided to make good on the prank.
The film will be starring Mizuki Yamamoto with Koji Shiraishi (The Curse, A Record of Sweet Murder) will be directing. Yamamoto will be playing the character Yūri Kurahashi, who is caught between Sadako and Kayako. It will be her first horror gig but she says she’s a big fan of horror flicks, especially Shiraishi’s The Curse.
The supposed final film in the series, Ju-on: The Final premiered in Japan on June, with Sam Raimi planning to run a reboot of the films for Hollywood. There is also going to be a new the Ring franchise film called Rings in production as well, set to open 1 April 2016.
Sadako vs. Kayako will be opening in Japan June 2016.
