Acid Wizard Studio, the guys behind the popular horror title Darkwood put their own game on The Pirate Bay for users who simply can’t afford it.
For many devs, places like The Pirate Bay is a bane for many; causing revenue drain and frustration for creators. Torrents don’t only cause revenue loss but in the case of the iOS game Battle Dungeon, the indie studio Hunted Crow had to take it down because their servers buckled under the weight of the pirated titles.
The reasoning for Acid Wizard to put their game up for free though is an interesting one. Darkwood hit early access on Steam back in 2014 and they’ve been developing it and the game was finally released in full on Steam. However, they got a comment from someone who refunded the game because they didn’t want their parents to get stressed over the bill.
“If you don’t have the money and want to play the game,” they say, “we have a safe torrent on the Pirate Bay of the latest version of Darkwood.”
Acid Wizard adds that the game comes with no frills and won’t penalise you for downloading it off the torrent site. However, if you can afford the game later, do support the devs and buy it discounted when a sale hits Steam. Their kindness deserves our support!
