WD has just unveiled the new WD TV Personal Edition – an intuitive Wi-Fi enabled media player that plays almost anything you throw at it be it via USB, network storage devices or any device on your home network.
Consume all the personal media you want – photos, videos, music because the WD TV will effortless do MKV, MP4, AVI, WMV, MOV, WTF formats. OK, the last one we made up. The nifty media player will stream files from USB drives (also from WD’s own portfolio – My Passport Ultra and My Book) and also NAS drives like My Cloud. Throw in digital camcorders, cameras, your networked gaming PC and Mac, why don’t you.
Talented hardware aside, WD has spiced up the WD TV with a spanking new user interface where you can customise the home page with your favourite apps and shortcuts, and even set apps to auto-run. Neato.
Since we all personally own at least two smartphones (according to data anyways), you can project content from your mobile devices to your TV via Miracast, up to Full HD 1080p.
So, view viral YouTube videos, check your social network updates on your TV. We know you want to. Go crazy. Things are understandably, well, bigger. Size does matter as they all say.
What’s cool is that you can use the free WD TV Remote app on your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or Android compatible mobile device to control the WD TV.
WD TV Personal Edition is available at select retailers, and costs RM359.00 (SRP).
