Today, much to the disappointment to many Malaysians, local team Fnatic suffered a terrible blow at The International 2015 (TI5) Dota 2 Championship as they were knocked out by Russian team Virtus.Pro in the first round of the lower bracket.
Team Fnatic, lead by local Dota legend player Mushi, come out with a new lineup of the best players to come out of the country for the match but had a few very unusual choices with the positioning in their first game of the main event. While most expected Mushi to lead the team in the match, he unexpectedly switched to a support role and let player KecikImba take the helm.
Some speculate that Team Fnatic was looking to tinker with their strategy after a rather disappointing performance during the group stages of the tournament, with the team finished with only four points out of the possible 21 points, leaving Team Fnatic the second last in their group. It didn’t help the pressure that Team Fnatic was facing since the first round of the lower bracket would be a best-of-one sudden death round.
While it is sad to see our local Malaysian team’s lack of progress during the tournament, they were not the only ones to get knocked out very early. Ukraine’s Team Na’Vi, the winner of TI1, and China’s Team NewBee, the winner of TI4, also suffered defeat and were eliminated from the tournament. This goes to show that this years teams are extremely strong if they can knock out some of the previous champions in the first round. The championship still has a way to go and you never know if the tables will turn.
