Apple Watch Series 2 THG 2

Apple has finally announced the follow-up to the Apple Watch — and it’s called the Apple Watch Series 2. Is it just a rehash of the first Apple Watch or more? Here’s what you need to know.

The first thing you’ll notice right off the bat is that the Apple Watch Series 2 looks almost the same as its predecessor. Despite the similar look, though, almost everything about the inside has changed. There’s  a brand new System in a Package (SIP) — the S2 — featuring both a brand new dual-core processor and a new GPU that are faster than the original. On top of that, it’ll also be running watchOS 3.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. One of the more exciting features is that the Watch Series 2 is Swim Proof. That means it’s water resistant up to 50 metres. That’s a significant upgrade from that of the original Watch’s splash proof rating.

Now you can swim with your Apple Watch Series 2 without any worry of it getting water damaged. And swim with it you would as Apple has spent a lot of work to ensure that the Watch Series 2 can track your swimming activities as accurately as possible.

In fact, fitness is a key focus for the new Apple Watch series 2. It now comes with built-in GPS for better fitness tracking and accurate route mapping. Apple even claims that the GPS is so fast that you don’t have to wait for it to find your location. You just need to hit start, and you’re good to go.

There’s a Nike version of the Apple Watch Series 2 as well

Apple has also partnered with Nike to create what they call the Apple Watch Series 2 Nike Plus.  This particular version is, even more, fitness oriented and designed for runners with a new perforated band that’s light and stretchy.

And if you’re worried about a lack of screen visibility out in the sun, don’t worry. According to Apple, it has the brightest screen on any Apple device. At 1,000 nits it’ll make sure that you can see its display even under bright sunlight.

The Apple Watch Series 2 will come with a brand new ceramic case that has a pearl white colour with a smooth finish. This new ceramic case has the added benefit of being four times harder than stainless steel for added durability. There’s still the aluminium and stainless steel cases though there is no mention of an Edition gold variant.

The Apple Watch Series 2 will be priced at USD369 and will be available for preorders in selected first wave countries starting the 9th of September.

If you’re eyeing the Nike Plus edition, unfortunately, you will have to wait a little while longer as that version will only go on sale in late October.
