At 21st Kadokawa Cinema Shinjuku, a preview screening and cast appearance for a summer season adaptation of Yu Moroboshi’s fantasy action light novel Kusen Madoushi Kouhosei no Kyoukan/空戦魔導士候補生の教官 or The Instructor of Aerial Combat Wizard Candidates is released. Director of Rosario to Vampire and Princess Tutu, Takayuki Inagaki will be helming the series with scribing by Hiroshi Yamaguchi who did Muv-Luv Total Eclipse and Rosario to Vampire series. Full Metal Panic character designer, Osamu Horiuchi will be on board as well. So far, three volumes of light novel are out under Kadokawa publishing. Voice castings are Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Sword Art Online, Absolute Duo), Nozomi Yamamoto (Absolute Duo, Akatsuki no Yona), Iori Nomizu (Date A Live, Triage X) and Nao Toyama (Kancolle, Cross Ange).
The plot is set in the world where humans are forced to eke out an existence on aerial floating cities while under threat of evil entities called the Makouchu. So far, “Aerial Combat Wizard” is the only effective means to combat them and the story focuses on S128 special platoon’s elite ace, Age Katana or known with his nickname “Master Swordsman of Black”. However, he is universally despised by people around him and mocked as “the traitor of the special platoon” after an unspecified incident. So one day, he is shoved with an instructor job of a hopeless E601 platoon that has a dismal battle record. The loser outfit will have three equally difficult female members – Misora Whitale, Lecty Eisenach and Rico Flanel.
