Few years ago, Sony Pictures announced that they had acquired the rights to the movie and brought in John Cohen (Despicable Me) as the producer. The voice cast includes Jason Sudeikis (Saturday Night Live) as Red, Josh Gad (Pixels) as Chuck, Danny McBride (Your Highness) as Bomb plus Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, Pixels), Bill Hader (Inside Out, Superbad) and Maya Rudolph (Aunt Cass in Big Hero 6).

Cohen gave a cautious hint about the movie during an interview with EW:

The question Rovio gets more than anything is ‘Why are these birds so angry?’ This is the origin story for how that conflict came to exist between birds and little green piggies.”

Whereas co-director Fergal Reilly give some idea on the challenges to adapt the 2009 hit game into a proper movie, “These are icons in a game that appear to be characters, but really they’re just icons. So it’s up to us to flesh them out… It’s an advantage that we have such a huge brand. A lot of iconic movies come from branded entertainment. But you have to quickly forget about that when you’re working on the movie because you still have to, you know, make the movie.”

The family friendly movie will be ready to fight the pigs at the cinemas on 20th May 2016. via EW
