The Qi Wireless Charger
The Qi Wireless Charger

In the UK, McDonalds has been running trials with wireless charging via Qi wireless chargers produced by wireless charger producer Aircharge. 600 charging points have already been installed in 50 branches of the American fast food giant since 2013.

To avoid any potential hazards from food and drink spills on the hardware, the stations were designed to be resistant to the odd splash and drip. For the older models that aren’t capable of wireless charging, the stations sport regular ports too. So far, McDonalds has not been charging for use of the service to entice more people to have a meal in their outlets while juicing up their devices while they chow down.

The response so far has been encouraging, with some places reporting lines of people waiting for a spot to charge their devices up to 30 minutes for the charging mats.

So far, there has been no inkling if the fast food giant intends to expand this service, especially in South East Asia in the immediate future. Meanwhile, check out this nifty demonstration on how to use the device.
