The announcement of the name

Chinese manufacturer, OnePlus has finally unveiled the name for the replacement ROM that will power its next flagship, possibly starting with OnePlus Two, called OxygenOS. This is after the company decided to open their doors to their customers for name suggestions and one fan wrote in the winning name.

Not surprisingly, this occured after the recent complications in India where OnePlus suffered a temporal ban of sale due to a dispute involving the OnePlus One OS, the Cyanogenmod. In that case, the ROM company, Cyanogen Inc signed a deal with Indian smartphone maker Micromax for exclusive use of the said ROM in India under brand name Yu despite OnePlus being the first one to use it in India. However it did not stop Micromax for asking the court the halt sales of OnePlus in the country. This also sundered the close relationship between OnePlus and Cyanogen with the co-founder of OnePlus, Carl Pei gave a very grave statement during the incident : “We can’t explain Cyanogen’s decision because we don’t fully understand it ourselves.

Recovering from the sordid legal episode, OnePlus decided to develop their own ROM by themselves. With the new name however, the company did not reveal anything beyond it, promising that they will be more forthcoming with it on 12 February 2015 in their blog.
